As ch. 17 begins, David desires to build a temple for God and Nathan the prophet agrees, but God comes to Nathan and tells him he was wrong to agree. David's motives were correct and the Lord was glad David had this desire nevertheless the answer was no. How do we respond when we want to do something that seems right but God says no? David's heart is not hardened, He comes before the Lord and finds great consolation and God assures him that his life will be blessed.
